Brazil can be visited all year, but the best season depends on the region. The Pantanal is best in the dry season, roughly from July to October, for wildlife. Rio de Janeiro is pleasant from April to June and from August to November. Carnival takes place in February or early March.
For a first visit, ten to fourteen days allow you to combine two or three regions, for example Rio de Janeiro, Iguaçu Falls and the Amazon or the Pantanal. Brazil is very large, so most trips between regions need domestic flights.
